  Progress of TheraFitters
Rich Ayres (Tramatic Brain Injury) - The past year Rich has made tremendous progress at TheraFit Gym®. In March Rich was able to have his right frozen elbow released through surgery. He was denied surgery in the past because he did not have enough muscle in his arm and they did not believe it would be beneficial. However, through vigorous exercise and strength training, Rich was able to have the surgery and is learning to feed himself. Rich has improved cognitively as well from the stimulation he is receiving from continuous movement on the Quadriciser®. He is now initiating conversation, asks questions and is speaking in a louder voice. He is able to balance himself and stand on his own and go from a sit to stand position from his bed. His abs are stronger and he can do up to 50 crunches from a lying position. His left leg just started bending from the knee about 1 month ago and he can now lift his left leg to his chest while lying down which he has not been able to do in the past 6 years since his accident. One of Rich’s goals is to be able to walk on his own.

Mandy Kent (Spina Bifida) - Mandy was TheraFit Gym’s® first member who started Dec. 4th 2006. Mandy was born with Spina Bifida and was completely paralyzed from the chest down for the past 15 years. When Mandy first started with us, her posture was so bad that her head and upper back was slumped over while she sat in her chair. She could not lift her arms above her head. Mandy has made tremendous progress and comes to TheraFit 3 days a week. Within a couple weeks of starting TheraFit her posture was noticeably better. Within a couple months she was able to sit up on her own and raise her arms above her head without falling forward. A few months later she was able to crawl on all fours with my help. As of today, Mandy is taking steps for the first time in 15 years with a walker that has a support system. For the past 30 years of Mandy’s life, she has had a total of 85 surgery’s and has not gone six months without needing an operation. Mandy is excited to say that for the first time in all her life, she has gone 1 year without needing surgery. Mandy’s goal when she first started was to have more upper body strength, she never imagined her legs to be moving again so of course her long term goal would be to improve strength and movement in her legs
